CRUZ ANDINA – Handwoven Wool Rug with the Symbolic Power of the Andes

The CRUZ ANDINA rug unites traditional Andean symbolism with exceptional craftsmanship. Its geometric cross pattern – inspired by the Chacana, the Inca Cross – represents the connection between heaven, earth, and humankind, making it one of the most meaningful symbols of Andean culture.

With its white base color and sun-like yellow motif, this rug evokes the light and warmth of the South American highlands. The design brings a sense of calm, natural beauty, and vitality into any space – a modern interpretation of tradition, woven with history and soul.

Each rug is lovingly handwoven on traditional looms using 100% Argentinian sheep’s wool. The wool comes from freely grazing sheep in northern Argentina and is processed by a local cooperative.

Crafted with care using the Baetón technique, each rug is a true one-of-a-kind piece – flat-woven, durable, yet soft to the touch. The natural wool provides longevity, warmth, and a pleasant indoor climate, making it as functional as it is beautiful.

Every piece is created in collaboration with a women’s cooperative in Argentina, which, through direct and fair trade, empowers women in vulnerable situations and supports their path toward economic independence through their artisanal skills.

Production: Hand-spun and handwoven – approx. 4 weeks manufacturing time

Material:

• 100% Argentinian sheep’s pure wool
• Hand-spun yarn
• Flat and lighter weight weave, pile approx. 0.5 cm
• Soft yet compact texture

Colors: natural white (undyed) and yellow (artificially dyed)

Technique: Flat weave (Baetón technique, see below)

The rug is made using the Baetón technique, a single-thread weaving method also known as the tapestry technique. This traditional method requires highly skilled artisans, as every detail is meticulously handwoven. Through this technique, the rug displays its design on both sides, making it especially versatile and durable.
