Handwoven rug from a women's cooperative by indigenous women of the Qomle'ec community in the Gran Chaco region of northern Argentina.

With every purchase you support their culture and empowerment.

To create this unique rug/tapestry, Qomle'ec women clean the wool in four washes. They then dry the wool in the open air and then dye it with natural dyes. They use native leaves, bark, and fruits to create a variety of colors—a reflection of a vibrant, joyful, and strong culture.

The wool is processed on a spinning wheel, which produces yarns of excellent quality for weaving the textiles.

On the vertical loom, the motifs of indigenous cosmology appear, representing in an abstract way the flora and fauna of their surroundings.

The Matriarca women's cooperative has introduced spinning wheels, both pedal-operated and electric, to improve the quality of its artisans' work. It also collaborates with various institutions to improve sheep breeding and increase wool production.

Dimensions: approx. 80cm x 40cm (due to the unique handcrafting, irregularities and deviations of a few centimeters are possible)

Color/Design: see photo

Material: sheep's wool (virgin wool)

Coloring: natural dyes obtained from native leaves, bark, roots and fruits.

Production: antique weaving technique with wraps around threads, fair and directly traded

Care instructions: Clean the rug regularly on both sides with a soft-bristled vacuum cleaner (no brush). Do not handwash or machine wash, and do not place in direct sunlight to preserve the natural color. Minor stains can be gently wiped off with a cloth moistened with neutral soap. If cleaning is necessary due to larger stains, professional cleaning is recommended. We also recommend an anti-slip underlay (e.g., made of jute) to secure the rug to the floor and prevent slipping.
